Costa del Sol Lifestyle

The Costa del Sol is a well-known holiday destination that receives international tourists every year. It is no surprise that the southern part of Spain is so popular, as the literal translation of the coast´s name is ¨Coast of the Sun¨. The Costa del Sol is one of the most popular areas in Spain for expats (expatriates) and many people move here each year. As suggested by its name it offers excellent weather all year round and properties there range from basic apartments (pisos) to luxury villas (casa sensorial), depending on your budget and taste. There is something for everyone in the area, from sporting activities to bars and restaurants.

Apart from the delicious food, friendly Spanish people and the rich culture, there is another reason why the Costa del Sol: the beautiful beaches and the Mediterranean sea. With more than 125 beaches on a coastline that stretches out over 161 kilometres, it can be challenging to pick the perfect destination for your holiday in Spain.
One of the most attractive place is Mijas - a large area of the Costa del Sol and has three main parts: the village of Mijas Pueblo, Mijas Costa and Las Lagunas. The village of Mijas Pueblo is just a few kilometres from the coast and attracts many tourists during the summer months. The town hall in the village has a department devoted entirely to helping the expats that choose to settle in the area. Mijas Costa is the region’s coastline and lies between Marbella and Fuengirola. Las Lagunas is the commercial area of the region and is very close to Fuengirola.
From the beaches of the Mijas Costa, provisions for jet skiing, waterskiing, windsurfing and wakeboarding are available for all to enjoy. Tennis centres, lawn bowls, gymnastics centres and many traditional sports are all open to tourists too.
The competition standard golf courses at Cala and Mijas Golf, Santana Golf and El Chaparral Golf Centres are also open to non-members, and these are probably the most notorious golf courses on the Costa del Sol. A holiday villa in Mijas, Costa del Sol, lands you in a golfers’ paradise, with year round sun and a huge number of courses open to tourists all year round.
The hills behind the Mijas Costa are open for horse riding, mountain biking and walking, and offer a great alternative to the sand of the coastline, as well as fabulous scenery and a chance to buy local fresh fruit to fill yourself catering villa on the Mijas Costa.
Mijas Costa, like most of the Costa del Sol has a magnificent climate all year round, which has been a driving factor in the Costa del Sol becoming a Mecca for golf.
There has been a great deal of investment in the area in recent years. Many of the roads are fairly new and the rail links to other parts of the country are excellent. The property (propriedad) prices – if you do not take into consideration some of the wealthier resorts – are lower than some other parts of Europe. The airport at Malaga has daily flights to and from most European cities and there are many budget airlines now using the airport regularly.
