EAT IN NORTH SOMERSET
If lockdown has taught us one thing, it’s to be thankful for what we already have, but that can be many things – our health, our friends and loved-ones, our jobs, colleagues and our community, our freedom of movement and the beautiful world we live in.
When lockdown is over, we can finally reunite with the people we care about and there’s nowhere better do this than at a nice pub, bar or restaurant. At the same time as catching up with friends and family, eating out locally will give the much needed support our local eateries deserve.
With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of some of the great places we’ll be catching up with our loved-ones at when Covid-19 is no longer a threat and social distancing a thing of the past. All are local, independent businesses in North Somerset, some we’ve already been too and others we’re looking forward to trying.
IL PARADISO – Italian Restaurant
Located in Nailsea, this family run Italian has an impressive menu of great traditional dishes and delicious pizza! The food and drinks are reasonably priced and the staff only too happy to help make your visit one to remember. The décor is of a traditional Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere which adds a holiday like factor to your visit. We’ve eaten here on several work occasions as well as with our family and friends and have never been disappointed. We can’t wait to go back!

THE ETHICUREAN – Contemporary British Restaurant
A kitchen garden restaurant in a Victorian walled garden, located in Wrington with the most incredible views! The Ethicurean presents its food with style and flair, and it tastes as good as it looks too. The focal point of each dish are the homegrown vegetables, however anyone craving pastured reared meat & sustainable seafood will not be disappointed. The homegrown theme continues in to their drinks menu, with wines, beers and cider from their orchard. An intimate fine dining venue with a hip edge.
THE PONY & TRAP – Gastropub
This 200 year old pub in Chew Magna has held a Michelin star since 2011. The cosy gastropub serves locally sourced, fresh and seasonal produce from a twice daily menu. Whilst presentation is good, here it’s all about the bold flavours and classic cooking. Pigeon Breast, Pork Belly, Venison & monkfish served with fresh veg and tasty sources are among some of our favourites. A superb venue for either a swift drink and nibbles or a sit down meal with family and friends. If you really feel like celebrating try their food and wine flight - you will not be disappointed!

JUNIOR POON – Chinese Restaurant & Wine Bar
Situated on the popular Hill Road of Clevedon, this inviting Chinese restaurant was established in 1992. The three story building has a formal restaurant, a private function room and wine bar which serves Chinese Tapas - for anyone looking for a more casual dining experience. The restaurant’s vast menu is perfect for large sharing parties, but that’s not to say couples cannot enjoy a more romantic experience on a table for two.
THE RISING SUN – PUB & VENUE
One of our favourite go-to pubs! Part of The OHH Pub Company, The Rising Sun is located on the A370 in the village of Backwell and is everything a traditional pub should be - and more. A great selection of drinks whatever your tipple, good old fashioned pub grub like burgers and pies, all freshly cooked. Being a short drive from Bristol International Airport, The Rising Sun also offers a bed for the night and a breakfast menu. With a large sunny rear garden (and playpark for children) this great pub hosts events, weddings and is currently offering a Farmhouse Menu Delivery Service during lockdown.

VENGA – Tapas Restaurant & Cocktail Bar
Located in Portishead, Venga is a lively place to be with a great atmosphere inside and out. Alfresco dining can be enjoyed either on the vibrant high street to the front or the enclosed rear garden to the back. Whilst tasty tapas and chilled cocktails are their speciality, Venga also offers VIP Perks, Events, Accommodation and a take away menu. We’ve heard all these great things from locals and look forward to a post lockdown visit here.
THE LIMEHOUSE – Modern British Cuisine
Located in the busy Victorian seaside town of Clevedon, The Limehouse offers relaxed dining, coffee and cocktails. The stylish venue has a perfect blend of modern and old style for a comfortable and relaxed setting. English Breakfasts, Sunday Roasts and lunch deals are some of the most popular choices and cocktails can be enjoyed whilst watching the world go by looking out the large opening windows on to the Victorian street.
THE CELLAR – Wine Bar & Restaurant
Whether you want coffee, cake and a catchup with friends, a tasty relaxed lunch or evening meal, The Cellar with its cosy and friendly ambience is a must. Their menu offers a broad range of dishes, including tapas, championing local produce and artisan suppliers, alongside a great selection of wines from around the world. Trust me, the wine is good! There is live music every Tuesday evening with the very best singers and musicians from the south west performing Jazz, Blues, Country and popular music.
