Barcelona is the second largest metropolis in Spain and a major travel destination. The city of Gaudi and Catalonia’s capital, Barcelona is a cultural hub, a culinary heaven, and almost certainly the finest beach city in Europe.
Blessed with a privileged location between the vibrant shores of the Mediterranean Sea and the spectacular Collserola mountain range, the sprawling metropolis features 10 main districts, each of them with its own particular feel and priceless architectural wonders.

The most vibrant of all, Ciutat Vella (Old Town) is the beating heart of Barcelona. Equally charming, L’Eixample and Gracia balance the medieval allure of the historic centre with a contemporary layout, wide avenues, and precious, awe-inspiring Modernista architecture.

The Gothic Quarter is marked by the point where the two main streets, the Cardo and Decumanus meet. The original centre of the Quarter Gothic, the Plaça del Rei, proudly showcases the architectural ensemble made up of the royal residences of the Catalan-Aragonese monarchs. One can enjoy the charm of old Barcelona and the luxury of some of the most elegant buildings, but also views the city´s Roman wall and several medieval landmarks, although most of the quarter was built in the 19th and 20th century. Its maze of narrow streets and squares is steeped in the city's past and present.

El Born - The heart of the district is undoubtedly the picturesque Passeig del Born 'square' (in fact it's an oblong). At one end of the Passeig Del Born (known as the Paseo del Born in Spanish) stands the district's most famous building, the wonderful Santa Maria del Mar church.
Other than the joys of medieval architecture, and the Picasso Museum, El Born is characterised by its little treasures- this fashionable district is the place where you'll chance upon innovative boutique shops.

The Barceloneta - is a triangular spit of land that cuts into the sea boats in the old harbour, or Barcelona's Port Vell, on one side, and sandy beaches on the other. The neighbourhood, with its narrow, rectilinear streets, was built on a military grid structure to provide accommodation for the former inhabitants of La Ribera who had lost their homes due to the construction of the citadel. The houses were low-rise and small in scale so as not to obstruct views of the city.

On the beach and inside the neighbourhood, you will find rows of restaurants and bars combined with the traditional images of locals sitting in their chairs in the street and narrow balconies displaying clothes drying in the sun.
