French Riviera Property of the Week: “Eden found”

Home for sale in Grasse, South of FranceOriginally a “Bergerie” (Shepherd’s hut), this home was (re)built in 1930, by a famous British writer, and her husband (who, before moving to France was the King’s librarian). She wrote a number of books while living in the house, about her life in the South of France and daily encounters with the local people.

The current owners are equally as creative. She is an oil painter with her studio in the turret at the top of the house, overlooking the valley. Her inspiration comes primarily from their garden.

If one were to imagine “Eden”, this may well be it. Together, as husband and wife, they have spent the last 20 years developing the garden with the most beautiful exotic flowers, herbs, trees and vegetables so that it is always in bloom – blooms appear from Africa, Asia, the South Americas, Scotland and France throughout the year. They have no help; they themselves tend daily to the lush 5 acres – afterwhich, she spends her afternoons painting the morning’s inspiration.

This home, for sale through Fine & Country in Cannes, has a beating heart. It is not just a home, but a living, breathing source of inspiration to anyone who steps foot into it’s beautiful grounds.
