Their son Ockert Junior, who inherited the house, was also a physician. His sister, a well-known artist, Marie Vermeulen Breedt, became famous after painting President Mandela, who was a guest at the Boutique Hotel, the house, became in later years.

The current owner bought the house on Valentine’s Day 1n 1992, as a student home for her four daughters who studied at the University of Pretoria, hence the names of the suites. When the young fledglings, started to leave the nest to marry their student sweethearts, the doors were opened on 01 January 1996, to receive guest from all over the world. The home was lovingly restored, furnished, and named after Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. The aim was to instill the joie de vivre ambience so typical of Shakespeare’s comedies where everyone, even the king, is in love and happiness and music fills the air.

As a 5-star boutique hotel, it became not only a great pleasure, but an honor to receive guests from all over the world, including many state heads and our own President Nelson Mandela and his wife Graca Machel. During the following years, the owner gathered an extended family of staff around her, whom she came to love dearly. Traditionally in Africa taking care of one person means taking care of a family.
