Professional estate agents for luxury homes in Sandton
It has become customary to refer to Sandton as “the richest square mile in Africa” – a highly fitting descriptive phrase coined by one of the developers of Sandton City, the iconic shopping mall that first put Sandton on the map. Logically, it follows that a great proportion of latter-day homes in Sandton are nothing if not very luxurious and grand.
The predicted white elephant
Initially opposed by many, thus being more than a little controversial, Sandton was moreover predicted by naysayers to become a proverbial white elephant. Sandton City opened its doors to the shopping public in 1973 and the rest is history, albeit relatively recent history in the greater scheme of things.
Birth of the richest square mile
The mall’s initial partnering property, the towering Sandton office block, was soon to become one of the most affluent, prestigious office towers on the African continent. The richest square mile in Africa was born and well and truly settled in on the African map and the world atlas. Sandton was on the road to becoming the primary business centre in the Johannesburg region.
The impact of the newly created Sandton was enormously significant, so much so that many corporate companies and organisations moved from their premises in inner Johannesburg to new Sandton office premises and complexes.
Urban deterioration
Johannesburg’s CBD had been deteriorating with no end in of this urban decay in sight. There were no longer sufficient parking facilities to accommodate the number of commuter vehicles which entered the city on a daily basis. Lack of parking spaces and traffic congestion exacerbated the conditions in Johannesburg.
Sandton – the solution
Sandton provided a ready solution, and is now the financial and economic hub of the entire country. Properties and homes in Sandton sold like hot cakes – the newly built homes were of luxurious proportions, whilst the older homes were revamped and upgraded to luxury standards.
Rural lifestyles
It’s almost impossible to believe that the area we now know as Sandton was essentially rural only about some 50 years ago, and favoured by residents who preferred to live in the country and commuting to the workplace in central Johannesburg during the week.
Large, sprawling properties and smallholdings with rambling, farmhouse-style homes and outbuildings that included stables were the order of the day. Additionally, acres of veld dominated the largely natural landscape that was interspersed with narrow, dusty, unpaved roads that resembled tracks or trails, rather than streets.
Rapid change
Then, Sandton City arrived and the area changed at a remarkably rapid rate, transforming into one of South Africa’s most well-heeled regions with world-class infrastructure and featuring some of the country’s most luxurious homes.
Luxury property specialists
If an estate agency is to represent affluent clients – buyers and sellers of luxury homes – efficiently, professionally, and successfully, its property consultants should be:
- highly trained;
- dedicated and committed;
- professional;
- well experienced with top-level property transactions;
- specialised in the high-end, luxury home and property sector;
- intimately familiar with the lifestyle and working conditions in the geographical area/s in which they operate; and
- supported by innovative marketing initiatives and campaigns, and an extensive network and database.
