Britain’s Prettiest Listed Homes

Britain’s Prettiest Listed Homes

Listed buildings are some of Britain’s prettiest homes. They range from cute country cottages to historic houses in faraway places. We have tracked down the best properties for sale, and they all make the grade.

1. St Neots, Cambridgeshire, 7 bedrooms

This fine period home sits in part walled gardens of approximately 1.25 acres and has been recently refurbished to the highest standard by the current owners. The Grade II* Listed property offers an exceptional level of privacy while being just a short walk from the town centre and train station. There is an abundance of period features throughout such as exposed beams and sash windows. Outside, the gardens wrap around the property and comprise large lawns and mature trees. There is also a brick-built outbuilding.

2. Chigwell, Essex, 7 bedrooms

This Grade II Listed residence presents both character and grandeur throughout. The property benefits from sitting and dining rooms, a family/snug room, a cellar and a detached double garage. The sitting room enjoys natural light from two tall windows and French doors opening onto the patio, whereas the dining room provides the ideal space for hosting dinner parties or long leisurely Sunday lunches.

3. Hatfield, Hertfordshire, 8 bedrooms

An enchanting and substantial 17th-century family residence, this property sits in a plot of approximately two acres and offers a wealth of character and charm throughout. The Grade II Listed home features eight bedrooms, five bathrooms, a separate coach house, a secluded formal walled garden and a large lawn to the front of the property.

4. Upwey, Dorset, 8 bedrooms

Eastbrook House is an impressive Grade II Listed Italianate villa that sits in grounds of approximately 6.34 acres with a tennis court, natural lake and kitchen garden. The property also features eight bedrooms in total and spacious interiors throughout. There are also two further detached properties available by separate negotiation.

5. Harlaston, Staffordshire, 7 bedrooms

This beautiful Grade II Listed Georgian country residence sits just outside the pretty village of Harlaston, in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside. Haselour House dates to approximately 1734 and boasts versatile interiors, seven bedrooms and established south facing grounds totalling around 14 acres. There are outbuildings including a barn, workshop, and garage, too.

6. Creeton, Lincolnshire, 7 bedrooms

Built circa 1750, The Old Rectory is a charming Grade II Listed former rectory, located less than ten miles north of Stamford. The home is spread over two floors and benefits from tall sash windows with internal shutters and window seats, stone and timber floors, high ceilings, a swimming pond, vegetable garden, orchard, and a former grass tennis court. The beautiful garden gently dips down the hillside providing glorious views of the surrounding countryside.

7. Impney, Worcestershire, 5 bedrooms

Ravens Crest was built in 1891 as the second home to the Chateau Impney and was constructed in the same French renaissance style. The beautiful Grade II Listed Dower House is situated in the grounds of the Chateau, tucked away in a private secluded corner and is accessed over a private road and through electric wrought iron gates. As well as extensive living accommodation, the property has a stunning indoor swimming pool complex and sits in approximately 9.1 acres with 7.26 acres allocated to paddocks and equestrian facilities.

8. Auchencairn, Scotland, 17 bedrooms

Orchardton Castle is a unique Grade B listed Scottish Castle located on the Solway Coast. With over 40 rooms over four floors, this exceptional property is currently a stunning family home but offers exceptional business potential as a wedding venue or boutique hotel. There are over 30 working fireplaces as well as Oil Central Heating throughout. The property’s grounds extend to approximately five acres including extensive lawns, woods, a paddock and footpath access to a private beach.

9. Bossington, Kent, 12 bedrooms

This magnificent Grade II Listed residence is surrounded by 3.45 acres of gardens, grounds and paddock. In 2005, a superb renovation and conservation project was undertaken to restore, extend and enhance the property. Bossington House features a separate annexe, three offices, a gym, a snooker room and a heated swimming pool.

10. Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, 4 bedrooms

Located in the heart of the highly sought-after village of Keyston, The Dairy is a stunning example of a brick and stone-built, Grade II Listed barn conversion.
