Following a Government announcement on Saturday 31 October, a four-week lockdown has been implemented from Thursday 5 November, in England. Fortunately, this lockdown is not directly impacting those looking to move during these four weeks.
However, no matter what stage of the buying or selling process you may be experiencing, it is important that the estate agent you choose has Covid-secure health and safety measures in place to consciously minimise risk where possible. We reveal useful tips for the buying, selling and moving process.
Before choosing an estate agent, make sure you are satisfied with the measures they are taking and reassured that they are operating in line with Government guidance. For example, they should be able to offer a virtual viewing service to reduce the number of physical viewings, especially in the early stages.
There are many benefits to viewing properties virtually. This method can save time, money and resources by allowing you to view several properties in a single day.

Given these unprecedented times, it is important to remain cautious when selecting your estate agent. Ask the agent to explain their Covid-secure procedures first and foremost. Once you are happy with your agent, book a virtual valuation in replacement of a physical valuation to minimise further risk.
Once the contracts have been exchanged and you are ready to begin the physical move, there are precautions you can take such as washing your hands frequently, wearing a face mask and practicing social distancing with those who are not members of your household, such as delivery firms, to minimise the potential spread of Covid-19.
Try to do as much of the packing yourself as possible and where this is not possible, speak to removal firms in advance and ensure that they have their own Covid-secure measures in place, too. If you do choose to use a removal company, ensure all furniture is appropriately cleaned afterwards.
