Interior design trends for spring 2018

Interior design trends for spring 2018

As the darker days are fading and the weather promises to get warmer, it’s high time for an interiors spring clean to review what’s new in the world of design trends. Fine & Country Interior Design catch up with their interior designers to find out what key trends are influencing them this season.

Metallics

Fine & Country Interior Design staging and styling firm EHG Home are looking towards the warmer months by focussing on a much lighter colour palette, lifted throughout with hints of brass.  “We love a muted colour palette as it really evokes our laid-back luxury style at EHG Home. Our focus this season is on muted colour, natural materials and organic shapes with metallic hints," says Kate Haynes, Founder of EHG Home.

Metallics in interiors have been on trend consistently over the last couple of years, but the big difference this year is that neither rose gold nor copper are going to be a feature in any of the high street shops. Brass is the champion this year; it evokes a more natural and organic feel to a room and compliments almost any colour scheme.

Earth Tones

Always popular at this time of year, raw and earthy shades of clay, terracotta and ochre are evocative of our emerging gardens and flowers in first bud.

“Sage green is a beautiful neutral replacing the likes of pure white, beige and stone. The colour doesn't need to be restricted to a country look and feel but does warm up spaces and provides an organic freshness to any scheme,” says Rebecca, founder of Rebecca Hughes Interiors.

Texture

Texture often plays a large role in interiors trends. With textiles, this is embodied by embellishments and applique designs, giving each fabric a unique tactile look and feel. Interior designers pay special attention to combining different textures when they are designing their clients’ homes.

It’s this combination of different fabrics, patterns and textures which can bring a curated interior design look and feel to an interior.

This combination of earthy muted and textured fabrics by EMIA London for one of their client’s homes is very on trend this season.

Tropical

Last year the favourite trend on everyone’s lips was all things tropical and yet again it’s set to triumph the interiors space this year, although with a slightly less multi-coloured carnival element to it. This trend last year made green the colour of choice for a lot of prints and fabrics and it’s this obsession with the colour which has overlapped again into the new year. Lush energising greens in interiors will be a major feature whether it’s a bold palm print wallpaper, or a velvet upholstered sofa, as featured in this recently shot client’s home in Surrey by staging specialists Burbeck Interiors.

Botanical prints

Flower and plant prints never go out of fashion and springtime is when they really come into their own. This year, anything botanical has been given a slightly different look to keep them feeling up to date and new. Botanicals this year will tend to resemble something found in an artists notebook, freshly painted and quite detailed in style.

“This botanic print is one of our own creations, designed in-house at Mood Interiors, and is very much inspired by an ice cream colour scheme,” said Preet, founder of Mood Interiors. “We recently fitted this into a teenager’s bedroom who had severe complex needs. She chose this bold and positive print, teamed with blush pink walls to add some fun and freshness into her space”.

Fringing

Keen to stay ahead of the curve? Be prepared for full fringing being a major feature in interiors this year. The interiors and fashion industries often mirror one another when it comes to trends and we’re sure that interiors will also be fringing mad by summer 2018.

The brass fringe table lamp below was designed by Swedish designer Hans Agne Jakobsson during the 1960s and it has all the elements that exemplify the current 2018 interiors trends.
