Seasonal interior design trends to transform your home

As we approach the end of an unforgettable year, Fine & Country Interior Design highlight key trends for the upcoming months and reveal how a global pandemic has impacted design trends.

As the leaves start to turn and the nights draw in, many are retreating more than usual into their homes and looking for warm, comforting spaces. The most coveted trend in many large country properties where we specialise, is 'farmhouse' or 'Soho House style'. Both aesthetics offers an eclectic mix of old and new. They bring the comfort of a selection of choice antique pieces as well as stand-out artwork or statement furniture. As designers, we love this trend. It feels conected to the past, a solid reminder that we have come through difficult times whilst offering optimism through the unexpected addition of bright colour or a trend-driven piece.

If you are selling your property and want to avoid making big changes, then here are our top tips:

The importance of artwork

Sourcing a new piece of art is a brilliant and elegant way to transform the tone of a space. We have recently used a selection of large farmhouse pieces by Kristine Hegre in a family kitchen.

Sitting comfortably

Easy updates include buying an armchair in a bright colour or with clashing patterns or alternatively, there are lots of beautiful, warm coloured, fabric dining chairs to choose from.

Accessorise well

Cushions and throws are an even simpler option. Throw out your old, flat cushions and bring in new ones, preferably with feather cushion pads which last much longer. This is a fantastic way to refresh a room and introduce sophisticated, rich tones of green and rust that are most extremely popular at the moment. Accessorise further with practical yet fashionable throws in knitted fur fabrics to wrap up ready for cosy winter evenings spent by a log fire in style.

Au naturale

Using natural materials, particularly wood and leather, will add to the feeling of warmth you are trying to create. Combining a leather armchair with a velvet cushion never fails to inspire the urge to sit down with a good book.

The juxtaposition of old and new helps a house to feel like a home, as though it has evolved over time and is grounded rather than having sprung from the mood board of an interior designer.

Even when the world seems like an uncertain place, there are ways to bring a feeling of security into your home. Focus on creating a comforting environment with updates that you love and let us hope that by the time we emerge into Spring 2021, we will be facing the year with renewed optimism.
