Fine & Country Beaconsfield - Area Information
Beaconsfield is a town located just outside the M25 in South Buckinghamshire, less than 25 miles from Central London, with Gerrards Cross, Amersham and High Wycombe all within 5 miles.
The Chiltern Line train (the most reliable train line in the country) takes less than 25 minutes to get into London Marylebone, making Beaconsfield a favourite with commuters. It is just 5 minutes off the M40, giving swift access to the M25, London and Birmingham – as well as only a 20 minute drive to Heathrow Airport. Located just South of the Chiltern Hills, the surrounding area offers fantastic countryside for ramblers, cyclists and joggers alike. Excellent equestrian facilities are on offer at Shardeloes Equestrian Centre in Amersham (providing livery, lessons and quite often Summer jobs for keen young horse riders; and with approximately 500 acres of farmland all of this without having to cross a road).
A five minute drive west of Beaconsfield is Odds Farm Park, a wonderful day out for the whole family offering endless activities for kids as well as parents, and a great way to introduce children to farm animals from a young age. Beaconsfield is made up of two parts – the practical new town and the charming old town (a 15th century market trading town; although there is evidence that Beaconsfield was settled as early as the 13th century).
The new town has everything you’d expect, supermarkets (M&S, Waitrose, Sainsburys) to most major high street brands (Boots, Starbucks etc) together with a number of restaurants (The Beech House, Jungs, Prime, Prezzo, as well as Thai, Indian and Chinese offerings). Of course, not forgetting a major attraction for all ages is Bekonscot Model Village and Railway, which has been in situ since 1929.
The old town is renowned for its boutique shops and many pubs, bistros and restaurants (Brasserie Blanc, No.5 London End – noted in the Michelin Guide, the Giggling Squid, Achimi Japanese, Piri Piri, to name a few, and the internationally renowned Crazy Bear Hotel, Bar and Restaurants). Also in the old town a beautiful church, always busy with weddings throughout the Summer as the old two can cater for large groups with its many restaurants, bars and hotels.
There is also a weekly farmers market as well as annual charter fair run every year since 1269. Beaconsfield schooling is excellent with the following choices for Primary schools: St Marys and All Saints (both in the new town), Butlers Court School (old town) a private girls primary school; High March.
For secondary you have Beaconsfield High School (all girls Grammar), Beaconsfield Secondary across the road (mixed State secondary) and then Davenies private all boys up to the age of 13. Beaconsfield is also surrounded by excellent private boarding schools within an hours drive including Stowe School. Amersham (a 10 minute drive away) has Dr Challoners Grammar, and prep schools Heatherton House (all girls) and The Beacon (all boys). Pipers Corner private secondary school is 15 minutes drive away in Great Kingshill. Beaconsfield also benefits from its own Rugby club, Cricket Club and Squash Club.
