Fine & Country Cirencester - Area Information
Known as the “Capital of the Cotswolds” and dating back to the Roman Empire, Cirencester is steeped in history and arguably one of the finest market towns in the UK. Cirencester Market Square boasts beautiful Cotswold Stone architecture with its Cathedral-like Church of St John the Baptist overlooking the array of independent shops and restaurants in addition to the beautiful open space of Cirencester Park and The Abbey Grounds. Cirencester is also home to the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester Polo Club and Corinium Museum.
The surrounding villages of Sapperton, South Cerney, North Cerney, Preston, Ewen, Somerford Keynes, Down Ampney, Ampney Crucis and Fairford all have a charm of their own within easy reach of Cirencester. There are some outstanding rated Primary and Secondary schools within the vicinity of Cirencester, as well as some highly regarded Independent Schools, namely Cricklade Manor Prep School, Rendcomb College and Hatherop Castle School.
Lechlade may be on a smaller scale than Cirencester but it makes up for it in character. It is a historic small town in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the River Thames. Just a short stroll from the picturesque Market Square is the famous Halfpenny Bridge and boating Marina on the river.
There are some delightful towns, villages and hamlets nearby, with Highworth, Watchfield, Faringdon, Stanford in the Vale, Uffington and Buckland all offering easy access to the Cotswolds and Oxford. Again, there are some very highly regarded schools close by, including St Hughs School just outside Faringdon.
Whether you are looking for a substantial family home or a property investment in the form of a Cotswold bolthole or holiday let, whether it be a quaint Grade 11 listed cottage, a Georgian farmhouse or a contemporary riverside retreat, this corner of the Cotswolds and the surrounding area is the perfect place to own property.
